![]() My personal advice is just build one guild, in Seville, and max it out while playing through the quest lines, using it as your base to sell it's materials to boomtowns in the area. I would have had more fun using that time on playing with another character and playing in the Americas with Clippers instead of European ships. only to realise there was nothing to do with them so I built one, played a battle or two and then quit. I kept going for a few hours more to actually start my fleet of SOTL. My example, the Japanese questline I could have completed easily in about 20 hours total with a fleet of Galleon variants, but I was trying to build a fleet of Ships of the Line so I spent another ~20 hours grinding to invest in guilds to get the materials and then I accidentally sailed too close to Nagasaki while trying to get books (and being annoyed when the Chinese language book didn't respawn so I could improve my captain shipbuilding), and finished the game. ![]() ![]() To do the high level ships you need at least four guilds and they take millions and millions of dollars, which will take you 20+ hours to grind through sales, when the main questlines don't take that long to complete and you can do them easily enough with a fleet of Advanced Galleons from Seville which are much, much easier to find materials for. Having played through the game I don't think more than a couple of guilds are worth bothering with.
